About Replica Plant Walls
Good Earth Plant Company fields many types of requests to create a custom green wall, a living wall, or even a living moss wall by clients for diverse locations in Southern California and elsewhere in the United States.
In some cases, living walls with real plants aren’t the best choice. And sometimes, the client just doesn’t want to pay for the mandatory maintenance that living plants require. As our living wall business has grown, we can run into the problem of poor growing conditions or maintenance challenges. A living wall indoors still needs the right amount of light, irrigation, and the right temperature and humidity to provide optimal growing conditions.
Good Earth Plant Company will not recommend a living wall or green wall unless we are confident it will be worth your investment, including the ability to follow through with ongoing maintenance. But what can you do if you can’t install a living wall with real plants? Consider replica plant walls in place of living walls.
What is a replica plant wall?
High-quality UV protected replica plants can fill in for real plants outside in a replica plant wall, and make a living wall look possible without fading from the sun. Inside, we can offer replica plant walls, which are inherently fire retardant to meet building codes. Artificial plants and flowers professionally manufactured from quality materials, well-chosen, properly displayed, AND frequently cleaned and maintained are a far better choice than sick or dying plants in a living wall installed in a difficult location.
In some cases, a living wall will grow – but it can be too close to sensitive electronics or beautiful artwork and furnishing. If your plants lead to water damage, what’s the point?
Good Earth Plant Company always prefers to work with living plants. There are way too many benefits to your health and well-being: cleaner air with reduced levels of carbon dioxide, stress relief, decreased absenteeism, and proven increases in productivity.
The next best thing is using replica plants. They can’t clean the air, but studies show the realistic replicas still provide many of the same stress relief and behavioral benefits.
Do replica plant walls look like real living walls?
Artificial plants aren’t made out of cheap silks we saw back in the 1980s. Commercial grade artificial plants such as replica succulents, pothos, orchids, ferns, spider plants, or varieties with beautiful variegated leaves look and even feel like they are real.
One type of replica plant is made from molded foam core, and the design is an actual digital photo image or a real plant transferred to the surface. These are so good, a lot of them fool the pros. ?Another version uses live plants that are treated and preserved. Preserved plants have limited application, but ferns, palms, and junipers (among others) look fantastic!
The best choices are so durable they can stand up to outdoor conditions.
In this example, our Beverly Hills homeowner client wanted to add a living wall to his home. Great idea! But he didn’t want to wait the three to four months it takes to fully grow the plants, so he was disappointed the system infrastructure still showed through several months later.
Voila – we used replica plants instead! No waiting period, and we could create the look the client wanted. No irrigation will be needed, another plus in Southern California. This south-facing wall, painted black, was also hellishly hot in full sun. These were all excellent reasons to choose a replica wall.
How are replica plant walls designed and created?
Good Earth Plant Company works with replicas plants just like real plants. They need to be arranged and designed, shaped, trimmed and fitted. Our clients who decide to go with replicas are amazed at the results. And the best part: their potted “plants” never suffer too much over an extra-long weekend break from work.
If you’ve avoided adding plants to your workplace or home because your growing conditions are poor, or you don’t want the expense or hassle of ongoing maintenance, but you couldn’t stand the thought of living with fakes, get in touch with Good Earth Plant Company and let us show you what we can offer. We bet you’ll change your mind about replica plants.
